India longest Dobra Chanti Suspension bridge opened for tourists in Uttarakhand

Dobra Chanti Bridge

The Uttarakhand Government opened the long awaited Dobra chanti suspension bridge for public which is by far the longest motorable suspension bridge of the country. The project came into existence in 2005 after the overflowing of the Tehri lake had closed all key routes for the people of Pratapnagar. The bridge is 440 meter long and around 7 meter wide out of which five and a half meters have been kept for vehicles while the remaining space has been used for footpaths. It has a 25 meter approach ramp along with 58 meter high towers on both sides to keep it together.

The Chief minister of Uttarakhand during the opening ceremony said that it is going to be an epicenter for the tourists in the state. It will be the country’s longest single lane motorable suspension bridge, he said. The bridge has been lightened up by multi-colored lights with advanced technology that will make a great view for tourists visiting at night. The opening of the bridge is expected to bring back life for around 2.5 Lakh people as the bridge will considerably shorten the distance between Pratapnagar and Tehri.

Earlier, they were forced to take 50-60 kilometer long routes to visit other parts of the area. Due to this, the people from Lambgaon, Okhlakhal along with Pratapnagar had held a lot of protests that prompted the then Chief minister of Uttarakhand ND Tiwari to give nod to its construction. Earlier, it was expected to be in March, however that was postponed due to Covid 19 crisis.
